ASHM is pleased to provide a new course for nurses and midwives that dives deep into core elements of hepatitis B management and care. This course will provide nursing and midwifery professionals with in-depth, practical and person-centred hepatitis B care information, with a different focus each session. Our topic for this course is new and future treatment developments.

Course Description:

The course will discuss hepatitis B cure advancements, treatment developments and the implications this has on interactions with patients. Participants will receive practical information on how to converse with their patients about current and future treatment options, and important considerations for the health workforce will be discussed.

The course includes a presentation from someone living with hepatitis B, discussion of factors that impact the efficacy of future treatment roll-outs, as well as a group discussion that focuses on practical quality improvement activities.

Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with existing or potential quality improvement activities related to the session topic they would like to implement in their workplace, as there will be an opportunity to discuss, and problem solve with other healthcare professionals attending the course. The online course is structured as 2 hours of facilitated interactive education via webinar. Amix of learning methods will be used including:

  • Presentation of content
  • Interactive quiz
  • Case studies
  • Panel discussions
  • Group discussion
  • Describe the importance of inclusive, person-centred and culturally safe care in the management of hepatitis B patients
  • Discuss the role of the nurse and midwife using evidence-based care for people living with hepatitis B 
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement activities within practice with regards to hepatitis B management
