Hepatitis C for Nurses and Midwives

Hosted by the Victorian HIV and Hepatitis Integrated Training and Learning program, this free facilitated online training course provides nurses with the knowledge and confidence to increase screening and management of hepatitis C in primary care settings.

Target audience:

Nurses and Midwives working in sexual health services, public and private medical clinics, refugee and migrant services, correctional facilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services, drug and alcohol services, mental health services, and youth services, in Victoria.

Course components:

The facilitated training consists of a 3-hour interactive webinar comprising of presentations, panel discussions, case studies and group discussions.

The online session will run on Wednesday 2 April 2025, from 10:00am to 1:00pm

Course Learning Outcomes: 

  • Identify when testing/screening for HCV is indicated.  
  • Interpret HCV test results.  
  • Discuss required pre-treatment assessments for HCV. 
  • Determine which HCV treatment, monitoring and follow-up required.  
  • Examine the role of the nurse and midwife in models of care for HCV testing, treatment and follow-up. 

Recommended online learning:  

This is optional learning, but the following is recommended and will be considered assumed knowledge for the facilitating training.  

  • Clinical Foundations of Hepatitis C online course. This set of online modules may be completed prior to attending the facilitated training. This should take approximately 1 hour to complete all five online modules. This module is equivalent to 1 CPD hour. 

For further learning, you may also complete this optional module at any time. The content will not be assumed knowledge in the facilitated course.  

  • Advanced Liver Disease Online Learning Module for Nurses. A certificate equivalent to 1 CPD hour can be downloaded from the LMS following the completion of the module.  

Accreditation

This activity is equivalent to 3 CPD hours in total.

Certificates will be issued with the relevant CPD hours according to the components completed.

This course is endorsed by ACN according to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Endorsed Course Standards.

It has been allocated 3 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Continuing Professional Development Standard.

This course is pending endorsement by the Australian College of Midwives.
