Course Overview

This course dives into core elements of a nurse and midwife’s scope of practice relating to hepatitis B. Nursing and midwifery professionals are provided with in-depth, practical and person-centred hepatitis B care information, with a different will focus and topic each session. Our topic for this session is “Complicating factors of hepatitis B: HIV co-infection and liver cancer”.

Target Audience:

Nurses and midwives working in Australia who see patients living with HBV or from high-prevalence populations and have previous experience and knowledge of hepatitis B.

Course Components:

The online course is structured as 2 hours of facilitated interactive education via webinar. A mix of learning methods will be used including:

  • Presentation of content
  • Interactive quiz
  • Case studies
  • Panel discussions
  • Group discussion
  • Interaction between the course speaker, facilitator and attendees will be encouraged, enabling attendees to speak to their experience working in the hepatitis B/viral hepatitis field and fostering an information exchange.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of inclusive, person-centred and culturally safe care in the management of hepatitis B patients
  • Discuss the role of the nurse and midwife using evidence-based care for people living with hepatitis B
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement activities within practice with regards to hepatitis B management

This is an Australian College of Midwives Endorsed Activity 

This activity is equivalent to 2 CPD hours.

Hepatitis B s100 prescribers attending receive 1 HBV CPD.
