Sex Worker Awareness Training: Health and Stigma

Back to events
The Sex Work Decriminalisation Act 2022 (VIC) effectively repeals sex industry specific health regulations, such as the mandatory STI testing for sex workers, offenses for sex workers not using safer sex practices and/or working with an STI. Also relevant to general practice, the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act was amended to include as a protected attribute ‘profession, trade or occupation’ to ensure sex workers cannot be discriminated against on the basis of their work - including in healthcare settings. This education session will support general practitioners in understanding their legal duties under the new legislation and equip them with the knowledge and confidence needed to provide evidence-based best practice healthcare to all patients, whether sex work status has been disclosed or not. This training is co-designed by Victorian HIV and Hepatitis Integrated Training and Learning (VHHITAL) program and Vixen, Victoria’s peer-only sex worker organisation; and is funded by the Victorian Department of Health. Register your interest now, and the team will contact you shortly to finalise your registration. Facilitators: Dr. Owen Harris, GP (Inner North Medical Centre) and Dylan O’Hara (Vixen) in conjunction with VHHITAL. Continuing Professional Development: Undergoing accreditation for 4 x RACGP CPD Activity points, All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
