Advanced level training that will enable GPs to effectively diagnose, manage and treat chronic hepatitis B in the primary care setting. Successful completion of the training and assessment will accredit community-based medical practitioners to prescribe s100 highly specialised drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B.

This interactive course will involve online learning modules, in-depth presentations, case discussions, and facilitated group work giving attendees an opportunity to discuss practical strategies with peers and specialists.

Presenters: 

  • Professor Benhamin Cowie - Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Viral Hepatitis at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity.
  • Dr Nicole Allard- General Practitioner and Hep B S100 prescriber at cohealth with a clinical and research interest in Viral hepatitis.

    Further Details: 

    • Morning/afternoon tea and lunch will be provided.

    Learning outcomes

    • Screen at risk patients appropriately
    • Plan antiviral treatment for HBV infection
    • Utilise treatment protocols for monitoring patients’ responses to HBV antiviral therapy
    • Implement shared care between primary and tertiary settings including appropriate referrals
    • Develop management plans for patients requiring ongoing monitoring
