Treatment of Antimicrobial Resistant STIs: Mycoplasma Genitalium, Gonorrhoea and Others

Both Mycoplasma Genitalium (MG) and Gonorrhoea are relatively common in Australia. Both STIs have developed anti-microbial resistance in recent years, rendering them increasingly difficult to treat. This course will delve into treating evolving drug resistant STIs, including Gonorrhoea and MG.
Antimicrobial resistance refers to the ability of an infection to resist the effects of medicines used to treat the infection. It is sometimes also referred to as ‘drug resistance’. Drug resistance can be caused by the suboptimal or overuse use of antibiotics, non-compliance with treatment regimens and/or poor quality treatment. This session will cover effective methods of testing and treatment in the presence of antimicrobial resistance.
